Exploring the Hanok and Hwangnidan-gil
We began our anniversary getaway in Gyeongju, South Korea, by immersing ourselves in the traditional charm of a private hanok rented through Airbnb. The intricate architecture and serene ambiance instantly transported us to a bygone era, and we couldn't resist capturing countless photos of this enchanting abode.
Eager to explore the local scene, we made our way to Hwangnidan-gil, a lively street filled with fascinating shops and tantalizing eateries. Our taste buds yearned for a unique experience, so we decided to try the famous Hwangnam jjondeugi (황남쫀드기). This delightful treat, made of corn and flour, had a delicious and chewy texture that instantly won us over. It was a true culinary adventure that looked like a spicy Hot Cheeto but offered a distinct and mouthwatering flavor.
Continuing our journey, we indulged in another local specialty – tanghulu. Skewered grapes and strawberries glistening with a glossy sugar glaze provided a burst of sweetness that perfectly complemented the vibrant atmosphere of Hwangnidan-gil.
Skunk Works Hanok Cafe
Energized by these delightful treats, we sought refuge from the summer heat at Skunk Works, a charming hanok cafe. Here, we sipped on refreshing beverages and basked in the tranquility, enjoying a peaceful escape from the bustling streets.
Creating Memories at Sina Self-Photo Studio
Keen to capture our love in frames, we stumbled upon Sina Self-Photo Studio. With smiles on our faces and hearts brimming with joy, we spent a delightful time posing, laughing, and immortalizing our cherished moments together. The studio provided the perfect backdrop for our love story, preserving our special anniversary trip in a series of beautiful photographs.
Hanwoo and Digital Art
As the evening approached, we made our way to Daereung Park to experience the mesmerizing media/digital art exhibition. Held from May 4th to June 4th, the art installations illuminated the park, captivating us with their creativity and visual splendor. It was a truly immersive experience that added a touch of magic to our anniversary celebration.
To further enhance our evening, we prepared ourselves for a culinary feast. Our destination was the renowned 1976 Ganbaji, known for its exquisite hanwoo, a premium Korean beef. The marbling of the meat was a sight to behold, and the bustling atmosphere added to the excitement. Amidst a constant flow of people, we savored every bite, appreciating the incredible flavors and the culinary craftsmanship.
A Cozy Night's Sleep
With the night winding down, we hailed a taxi back to our Airbnb, eager to relax and unwind. The stone bath awaited us, accompanied by a glass of wine and a platter of cheese. Immersed in the soothing warmth, we indulged in pure bliss, reflecting on the wonderful moments we had shared throughout the day.
Farewell and Last Minute Exploration
The following morning, we reluctantly bid farewell to our charming hanok, but not before enjoying a sumptuous brunch thoughtfully prepared by our generous host. The spread of delectable treats fueled us for another day of exploration and discovery.
Before leaving Gyeongju, we made a stop across from the iconic Gyeongju Starbucks, known for its blend of traditional and modern architecture. We couldn't resist capturing the moment against this unique backdrop. Our next destination was the Cheomseong-dae, a historic observatory offering breathtaking views of the city and its blooming flowers.
Lunch at Daerung Kalbi
As we sat down for a satisfying lunch at Daerungkalbi, we relished the flavors and the moments of togetherness. Before we knew it, it was time to bid farewell to Gyeongju, a city that had stolen our hearts with its rich history and captivating charm.
With grateful hearts and a deep sense of fulfillment, we embarked on our journey back home, cherishing the memories, laughter, and love that enveloped our one-year anniversary trip to Gyeongju.
